Homemade Pizza and Lager or American Pale Ale

We are finally back to our pairings, at least for now.  The old calendar is back however it is quarterly so we used that as one of our suggestions along with some information from our beer pairing book.  We paired homemade pizza with a Lager and an American Pale Ale and the Lager was the best pair in most of our opinions.

The calendar is back!

The calendar was not available last year but has returned however it is quarterly instead of monthly.  It is a disappointment but we will use it anyway because it is always fun to have it for guidance.

Reuben toasts and Killians Red

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, this month we had Reuben toasts and Killians Red, a pairing we found on the Pints and Plates website.


I served it with Guiness chips as a side and used an alternative to Thousand Island dressing that contained a bit of horseradish that gave it quite a kick!

Beer and food (you say it's your birthday!)

Do you think everyone knows I'm a beer lover!

Guiness cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (and green and gold sprinkles) by Auriel were so yummy! (Not sure this is the recipe but it could be.)

Heather bought me Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Stout, the Graeter’s Ice Cream and Braxton Brewing Co. 2018 collaboration that I have been dying to try.  Yummy too!

Matt and Andy & Cartoon all bought me six-packs.

And my new boss bought me a six-pack since she missed my party.

February 2018 - Porter and Floats

Our second pairing of the year (and of our own creation) was Porter and Floats.  We weren't sure if we wanted to have sundaes instead but we went with floats in the end.

We used Shake Chocolate Porter by Boulder Beer.  We put it over vanilla ice cream and once the foam settled down it was kind of yummy.

January 2018 - Blue Moon and Mussels

Our first beer pairing of the year using our new pairing list, created ourselves, is Blue Moon and Mussels.  My new book recommends this combination as part of their "Try this" section.

We used the classic Belgian White (wheat ale) with oranges of course served with mussels, crab legs, fettuccine, salad and bread to celebrate Andy's 31st birthday. (I just wish I had taken more pictures.)
