January Stew and Stout

Our first pairing was Stew and Stout.  I made the longtime favorite Betty Crocker Classic Beef Stew recipe my family has loved for years.  To be a little fancy, I made bread bowls with hot roll mix and minced onions, also a family favorite from a cookbook I have had for years.

Matt chose the beer Great Lakes Blackout Stout to go along with the stew.

It was a great combination on this chilly January day.

Getting started

I recently saw an article by Mike Canan, a reporter on wcpo.com about food/beer pairings during the year.  It was based on a calendar he had with specific pairs each month.

This seemed like a fun idea for our Sunday dinners so I enlisted the help of my son Matt who is a specialty beer lover.

And that began our year of beer!
